Local Number Portability - (LNP)

Porting Rules:

  • If your subscriber has a phone number in their own name from an ILEC, RBOC, or cell provider, the subscriber can port it to a VOIP provider who really ports it to the CLEC that they are using in the subscriber's area. Incoming calls after porting will go to the CLEC's UNE-L switch, which is connected to the VoIP provider.

    Local Number Portability - LNP):

A term used to describe the capability of individuals, businesses and organizations to retain their existing telephone number(s) -- and the same quality of service -- when switching to a new local service provider.

This way, they won't have the hassle of giving out a new number to friends, family and colleagues, or risk the chance of missing important calls.
